Belg Boys
This is Sunday 2-8's "Daily Heads". I really wanted to get a good shadow side color on blonde horses and I finally got something I am happier with. Previous attempts were some greyish-yellow mud- ugh! A mix of reds, browns, ochres and orange is much more exciting.

Saturday - Gouache Studies
Took a break from oils for a day to do some studies in Gouache. Love the stuff- cheap, easy clean-up, easy to photograph and awesome for thinking and doing studies with. I was playing with a limited palette- black, burnt umber and a little white. It's a great way to screw around with values and edges with and get some nice lines too!

Old Bull
The "special of the day" is Bison. These guys are truly cool, such a unique specimen and their head is impressive, especially the old guys. I really wanted to take a closer look at the different textures of their hair but I chickened out (Hey these guys don't even move for an RV.).

Slackin' on the writin' but ...
Ok - so I am slackin' on the writing bit but the we are still pulling out the "daily head".. or heads. Yesterday a 8 x 6 in oil called "Mustang Peekaboo" with a couple of sorrels checking out the scene behind the ballsy bay. Today, a really awesome black percheron with one of the nicest eyes. The kind of horse you can depend on day in and day out, a real gent. Ah hah- title "A Real Gent" , 8 x8 in on canvas.

Got Carrots?
This little guy was one of the wild burros at a BLM auction. Very inquisitive and rather fearless. Probably pretty bright too, i.e. Einstein with long, fuzzy ears. He'll have his owners trained in no time.

2-2-09 The Old Guard
More heads- Yeah! These two are part of the Budweiser Hitch. I really loved the older ones mature build and confidence in contrast to the leaner, goofy young one who has a couple years before he'll have that gentlemanly elegance. 6"x 8" oil on Raymar panel.

The Daily Head- theme for February
Hey, so this could be fun... and painful, but heh, what the heck. February's painting theme is the "Daily Head"- hummm. I am going to paint a head, any type of head everyday for the month. To start things off right, here's a cute little ass I saw at the Pomona Equine Affaire ;)
Cheers, SF
